Gobble Popper Recipe
I’ve been unsuccessful at harvesting a late season turkey with my bow. Fortunately, I did successfully harvest a solid turkey recipe thanks to the Strut Commander channel on YouTube.
The Strut Commander folks call them “gobble poppers” and they’re quite possibly one of the greatest things I’ve ever made. Even more surprisingly, it’s all done on an oven indoors, so it’s way out of my typical outdoor smoker wheelhouse.
What you’ll need:
-Turkey or chicken breast
-2/3 cup of brown sugar
-1 tablespoon of chili powder
-Broiler pan or a regular pan
-Honey
-Thick cut bacon
-Toothpicks
Here’s what to do:
- Cut the turkey breast (chicken breast works well too) into 1-inch/bite size cubes.
- Cut an entire pack of bacon into thirds.
- Lovingly swaddle the turkey breast in the bacon blanket and skewer with a toothpick to hold it together.
- Mix 2/3 cup of brown sugar and 1 tablespoon of chili powder in a bowl.
- Dunk the newly-cocooned turkey in that bowl so it’s respectfully covered.
- Mist the broiler pan/regular pan with your preferred cooking spray.
- Place the meat on the broiler pan/regular pan.
- Set the oven to 350° and throw it in there for 15 minutes.
- After 15 minutes, drizzle the gobble poppers with honey and place back in the oven for an additional 5 minutes or 10 minutes if you want the bacon to be more crispy.
- If you feel adventurous, drizzle with honey again when it’s done.
- Gobble those poppers.
