The Toddler Chronicles, No. 11
I was admiring my broadhead collection, just minding my own business…
Around 9 p.m. last night, Lyla wanted to watch Moana in Gabby’s and my bedroom. I asked why our room and not the living room with the fancy soundbar. She said our bed was “so extra cozy and good for relaxing.” Having just put Charlotte down for the night and wanting to help Lyla wind down, I couldn’t argue with her logic. Besides, our bedroom is further away from the girls’ room than the living room, so if Lyla did start to get loud, it would be less likely to wake Charlotte up.
She climbed into our bed and got comfortable while I resumed Moana from where we had left off in the living room.
At the time of this writing, turkey season is quickly approaching, and I needed to make sure my ducks were in order. So while she was watching Moana, I decided to lay my bow and storage quiver on the bed to assess my broadhead situation.
Naturally, Lyla wanted to see what I was doing and asked if she could play with an arrow. I handed her one with a much safer field point and told her not to be dumb while I looked at one of my Magnus Bullheads with its included four-fletched arrow.
Lyla started using the arrow to point at things in the bedroom and settled on a picture of Gabby and me from our wedding reception.
“Daddy, look! There’s you and mom at your wedding!” she said as she excitedly pointed with the arrow. She continued before I could respond, “Daddy, look! Look! Mom is wearing a princess dress! Do you know you married a princess? She’s such a pretty princess in her princess dress at your wedding!”
“Oh yeah, look at that. Whaddaya know, I did marry a princess,” I said.
She replied, “You did! I want to get married like princess mommy!”
“Right now? I think you’ve got a little bit of time before that needs to happen,” I said.
She said, “Oh no, not right now. When I’m bigger. I’m still a little girl and can’t eat all of the chicken nuggets yet. I’ll get married in a princess dress after I’m able to eat all of them at once.”
I texted Gabby after this discussion to let her know that we’re going to be buying stock in Tyson chicken and McDonald’s. We’re also going to start adding three more nuggets to her plate each time she eats them, so she’ll never be able to eat all of them.
